Hi
I have read a few post about smelly smokey diesels on start up but none really answer my situation.
I let the glow plugs go out and the car starts within a couple of turns but does emit quite bad smoke (diesel smelling) for a couple of seconds.
I have read that this could be glow plugs but as car statrs first time this I presume would eliminate glow plug?
The amount of smoke does seem to be getting worse however the worse days may be the colder days.
Dont know if it could be linked to fuel consumption but it is a 150 bhp engine and as an average (mainly short journeys) the computer (which seems to be very acurate when checked with a calculator) shows around 38 mpg for the tank full.
I have put 2 bottles of treatment through (Redex etc) and it didnt seem to smoke before I did this.
I also have the emissions light (orange, looks like an engine symbol) come on periodically and when plugged in to computer the code led me to believe the egr valave needs cleaning, but wondered if this could be linked to the smokey starts as well.
Thanks in anticipation
Shaun
