    Default Signum Tailgate release

Hi, just a quick note to say I had a problem with my Signum exterior tailgate release switch before Xmas, basically it stuck in the open position, so everytime you pressed the internal release the tailgate popped to its safety catch position, but then you couldn't open it any further and the luggage area lights where on! The only way to get into the boot was by dropping the rear seats, laying in the luggage area and putting a screwdriver into the manual release, located on the tailgate next to the lock assy. This was the second time it had played up so I legged it down to the main dealer and ordered a new one, £18 inc vat, which I thought was reasonable. When it came I was pleased to see it had been improved and now was more positive in its action and came complete with a new rubber cover as well. Have now fitted it and everythings back to normal...Happy Days

Thanks neil, looked at the link and it explains very well what you need to do to fix it. Just to say the new switches do not have the ball bearing any more, instead they have added a rubber buffer which returns the handle when let go, much more reliable and feels more positive.

That's good to know. I had to unstick mine again last year so if it does it again I'll be getting the new assembly now that I know it's been redesigned. Cheers.

I have been reading up all day on various threads relating to this after my tailgate would not open this morning ,pulled the rubber cover off the switch and lubbed the ball bearing as per the other posts this failed to get the switch working again .
Stripped out the interior trim and removed the switch from the tailgate , once again had the switch working refitted it could only get the switch to pop the lock but would not allow it to open ,
Has anyone actually had the electric lock itself fail as i think this could be my problem

Mine used to cause problems but figured that pushing it down and pressing the unlock button got it working again... hasn't done it for a while now though...

what a timely post , on my vectra estate yesterday i had similar problems. when i pressed the keyfob twice the whole central locking system opens everything and the tailgate releases but i cant open it. neither the seperate keyfob nor the tailgate switch seem to work. i shall try stripping it down and follow the instructions on here.....i had thought that it may have been some sort of code error or i may have activated some safety feature by pressing the keyfob buttons in the wrong order.....help appreciated

Try pressing the boot down as you press the switch....
