It's a common fault on the Signums. There's a little ball bearing within the handle that gets gummed up and stops the microswitch from activating.

Solution is to get a new handle from the dealers, about £10-15. You then have two options. You can remove the rubber cover from the old handle, with the mechanism still in place, and you can then swap out the old/knackered part with the bits from the new one (that has a modified and improved design). The problem then is that you can't get the rubber cover back in place without removing the entire (old) handle, and to do that you have to dismantle the tailgate trim from inside the car, just to get to the bolts that hold the handle in place.

OR, if you're feeling lazy, trim away the bits of the rubber cover that are supposed to tuck in under the handle (and it's this "tucking in" bit that's impossible without taking it all apart) and instead use silicone sealant to make the cut-down rubber cover fit and still be water-tight. It'll take a fraction of the time, and once you've done it you won't be able to tell the difference between the finished result and the longer method.

or you could look on the how 2 section and it shows you exactly what to do to sort it for about £0.50 p without having to replace any bits

Not sure if you have the same issue I had; The boot would remain locked, even if it wasn't shut properly. The only way I could open it was to drop the rear seats, climb in to the boot and undo the lock using a large flat-head screwdriver (there's a hole in the trim on the inner boot lid cover which allows the car to be opened from inside). If I shut the boot 'normally', it would jam again, but if I slammed it hard, it would open ok.

I took it to Vauxhall and they replaced the electronic switch under warranty - and the problem is now rectified.
