Hi just wondered why you would go for a 225/45 and not the standard 215/50 as this will affect ur speedo slightly ie 50 for a 17" and 45 if u are going for an 18" also i havent seen any real saving as some suggested by going wider...

As Bainie Says 225/45s Are A More Readily Available Size At The Moment Its Only The Veccy That Uses 215/50s So Not That Many Brands About Cheapest 215/50/17 Tyres I Could Get Were About £120 Each !!

the 225's are also slightly lower profile then the 215's to,

    215/50= 107.5mm deep

    225/45=101.25mm deep

about 1/4 of an inch in reality, so will look slightly sportier , and as said, the choice is a little better for the 225 size

the 215/50 has an overall diameter of 647mm. The 225/45 has 634mm. Thats 13mm difference over the whole diameter, 2.01%. Its recommended to stick with 2.5% difference in tyre size. If you can tell a difference in speedo with that then youre a better man then me

Also, i dont know why vauxhall spec 225/45 18 tyres when they are 23mm bigger over the diameter than the standard 17. 225/40 is 10mm out which is a lot closer to the orginal tyre size.
