    Angry NFU Mutual insurance rant

    My Signum's been parked at the bodyshop for just over a week now. I told my insurance (Chris Knott) who were fine with that, and said that they couldn't agree any repairs until it had been inspected by an engineer from the other insurance company.

    Fair enough, I can see the logic in that. They explained it would probably take about a week due to all the claims at the time from icy roads and minor bumps etc, which was fine too. I spoke to the bodyshop today to be told that they hadn't heard a thing, so I phoned my insurance company to ask what was going on.

    The girl on the phone had a look at my file, and said "hhmmmmm...the other driver is insured with NFU Mutual, this could take a while"!

    I asked what she meant - apparently NFU refuse to talk on the phone with anybody but the policy holder, they will only communicate via letter with other insurance companies. So, Chris Knott have written to NFU asking for an engineer to inspect my car. NFU have not replied. My insurers don't expect a reply any time soon - NFU won't do anything until they've had all the claim forms back from the other driver and processed them. Only then will they write back to my insurers and get the ball rolling.

    Looks like I'll be driving the Subaru for a while longer

    I insure through NFU and have done for years. I have to say that generally they have been brilliant about all claims with very quick response times. Everything these days seems to be done through their legal partners DAS in Wales who are so fast and on the ball it took my breath away. They even have an online progress report thing. It sounds to me as though something may have gone wrong with the communication between your insurers and NFU Paul. Might be worthwhile rattling a few cages....
