    Default Engine Electronics!!

    Hey,

When i start my car i get three "bongs" sounding and the Engine Electronics warning icon (car with a spanner through it) displays in the small screen where the service, door indicator etc is. The engine starts no problem and the icon does off after about 2 -3 seconds of the engine been started?

The manual says it means engine/transmission electronics and put the engine into a safe mode or something? Has anyone else had this? Whats the problem and how is it fixed?

    Cheers Cos

Could be a number of things, get it into a garage and get the fault codes read.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

There are so many things to cause the issue it is not easy to diagnose without a fault code reader.

i've just read the owners manual and it talks about the icon displaying when the car is running and if it displays when the car is running then there is an engine electrical, on my car, the icon doesn't display when the car is running, it just displays before you start it but then goes out once started? What should the small screen display when you turn the key?

If its doing that then it means it has seen a fault thhat is no longer active. The car will be running fine and after 30 or so starts - some times more/less - then it will clear the fault unless it sees it again. The screen should display nothing when its started. hth

Thanks for your advice, its put my mind at rest now, i've only had the car a few weeks and i thought id bought myself a motor with an engine electrics issue!! must have started the car atleast 50 - 70 times by now i think, is there anyother way to get rid of the icon appearing when i start the car? Ive read a few posts saying take the battery leads off for 30 seconds and it should refresh the system and get rid? Will this work?

Thanks again for your help, this forum is turning out to be a great set of guys!

Yeah, remove the battery/disconnect it for half hour. You can get cheap code readers that will work to read codes and reset them as well. Although they will only read engine codes and not others that maybe due to body control modules etc.
