Ok here goes.

I'm looking for a some info on the light on the dashboard with the littl car an spanner.

Should it light up once ignition turned on then go off once engine started

or

Come on with ignition on then go out after a few seconds like th ABS warning light.

As ive noticed mine stays on till the engine is actually started, Could this be a fault?

No, should not come on at all. Plenty of threads on here, search for "spanner light" to give you an insight. If it comes for a moment then goes out, nothing to worry about. If it stays on all the time, then worry.

as above if goes ot straight away don't worry if stays on start saving could be a number of things from swirl valve, high pressure fuel pump or EGR valve all nice and expensive jobs.all depends if u have any other symptoms.

on the face lift it comes on with all the other warning lights & after a couple of seconds it goes out with them

It is a face lift and it goes out when engine starts. So its a fault code i guess.

It did have a major service 2 weeks ago would they have looked for a fault code?
Was done at maindealer .

Any clues as to what the fault could be?

When i took mine in to the dealers to fix my AFL light,
they unplugged something thats why i had the fault code, But as soon as i pointed it out they tect2 it to clear it

It should go back to normal after 30 starts or somethink like that,

If it was me i would pop back to the dealers & say it wasn't there before the service (and as you couldn't get to see them before this with xmas & all & see what they say
