    Angry fuel economy confirmation

just filled my car up,377 miles on 55.9 litress of fuel, computer said 32.2 mpg, actual 30.67mpg,this is out of a 1.9 cdti, this has been the fuel economy on the last 3 tank fulls.i think i would have been better off with a petrol engined car.egr valve cleaning made no difference

Sudden drop in temperature may have reduced the volume of diesel which was already in the tank, hence the lower reading
Also, expect the diesel to consume at least 5% more fuel with the lower ambient temperature and about 15% more at running temperature (surface temperature could be as low as -10'C)

Think you check your fuel system out as I would be suspecting a leak?? That is very bad economy.

Either you have a lead right foot or you've never mentioned the 3 tonne caravan on the back of the car??

Seriously, any roof racks, top boxes etc...?? I reckon you should be hitting at least 40MPG (normal driving).

There's something drastically wrong there then, Ive just done the same check on mine, I too filled to the brim with 55 litres but had covered 499 miles in doing so (120 cdti), my journeys are 9 mile trips each way to work rarely getting into 5th, I drive carefully and stick to the 30 mph speed limits. I would be doing basic checks such as air filter not blocked etc. An emission check would be the next course of action as high emissions are a sign of high consumption and may lead to the problem.

May be worth checking over (or checking the right foot ). I get over 600 miles per tank and have averaged 51mpg over 13 months from new, on a 150 CDTi.

Depends on what you are using the car for , if you just use it for the school run maybe 5 miles a day stuck in traffic it will be quite bad, saying that we get 37mpg going to school and 50+ out on a good run (1.9cdti 120)
