    Default Dodgy Signum Key Fob.

Got a 2006 Signum and have 2 Flip Keys for it.
When I picked the car up last year, one of the keys had been well used and the buttons were a bit shiny. So I thought to myself, 'That can be the spare key.'

I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. Now for the trouble...... The battery in my main key went flat and wouldnt open the doors - and manually unlocking it set the alarm off all the time.
Went to Halfords in teh Mrs car and got a few batteries. I replaced the main key and it worked fine, and because the spare had been sat unused for over a year, I changed that one too.

The main key that I was using workes fine again now, but the other worn one doesnt work at all. (even with a new battery in it)

Will Vx replace this key under warranty or is it going to cost me? Warranty is until April 2009. How much for a new key if it needs doing?

As its a key I doubt its covered but the only way to tell is to go in and ask to see what they say. The price of a new key varies from dealer to dealer a bit, but it will be around the £80-£100 pound renge from my calling around as very few charge the correct price. They like to add their profit margin onto the tech2 key programing

after what I originally paid for the car, I was a bit pi$$ed off that they didnt replace the worn key when I got the car.Pointed it out to the salesman who said 'use it as your spare' (translated to - "That'll have to come out of my sales bonus")
When we go away on holiday - I always take the spare just in case of emergencies. Its no blasted use if the thing doesnt work!!

Have you tried putting it in the ignition and trying to start, you can open the car with the other key so the alarm doesn't sound?

When in the ignition and on position 2 try pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the 'spare' fob too.

But if I lose the other key - Im left with one that wont unlock the doors and wont turn the alarm off if I open the door with the blade of the key. This is the only thing that bothers me about the car - pain in the ar$e

Maybe the old key just needs coding to the car again. Does the little red led light up on it? If so I think in the manual somewhere it says how to recode it to the car, if I am wrong about that then it may need a tech2 session to code the car to the key again.

Its only got the 2 buttons on it - there is no red light. I know its not the battery as I have swapped them over and know that it works.

There are instructions in the handbook that tell you how to resync the key to the car after a fob battery change.

EDIT found a previous post of mine giving the details:-

Cheers for that - tried it but fob must be knackered. I'll have to save my pennies and try not to lose my key before payday!!
