    Default Timing chain snapped !

    Hi,

Well what I thought was a fuel problem is not! Actually the timing chain has given up.

I've not pulled it apart yet, but what are the chances that there is no more damage apart from the chain? Is this a 'clearance engine' does anyone know?

    It's a z22yh engine.

    Cheers,

well if nothing happend... then you are lucky.. the valvs are gone.. at least some of them, if it snaped during engine on..

But try and make VX pay as they know its a fault on there engine (they did on mine after 40000 miles..)

If it just did not start then the chances are its just new valves, but if it stopped while running then its a far far bigger job mate. Gutted for you mate.

Well the odd thing is that it does still turn over and runs (very low tick over and then stalls) which is why i thought it was the fuel system.

But i've had a garage look at it and they say there is no compression on any pot.

I'm gonna get it back at the weekend and pull it apart see what the score is.

In that case it hasn't snapped, its jumped a few teeth and the timing is way out.... You might not have damaged anything, and all you might need is a new timing chain kit? Fingers crossed.

EDIT You say your going to pull it apart? In that case you sound a competent spanner man and if so and it turns out just to have jumped and there are no bent valves then just over £100 to Autovaux for the kit and you could have it fixed.
