Bumper off. Saves a lot of effort, frustration and scars on your hands.

If yours is prefacelift, no need for bumper removal. Remove the cover off the back of the h/light for mainbeam/sidelights, reach inside and grab the sidelight bulb holder, keeping in mind it's lower down than the mainbeam bulb. You'll probably touch the wiring first, follow that to the bulb holder. I find it helps to simultaneously lean down and have your eye line level with the sidelight from the front of the h/lamp, that way you can sense when your hand is level with your eye and therefore at the right place. The bulb holder just pulls out.

4 screws off the grille, lift off. Two clips off top of bumper. 2 screws off inner arches on each side. Pull out sides, bumper drops. 3 bolts per light, and off it comes.

On the prefacelift I've converted my wife's Signum to HID bulbs/ballasts all without taking the bumper off.

On a pre-face no need for bumper removal - on a facelift, now that's a different story! lol
