    Default signum 2.0T gearchange issues

    Hi

I have a 54 2.0T signum which i bought recently having given up my beloved 06 golf gti for cash requirements.

Dont get me wrong I have been surprised by the siggy (satnav miles better than the vw rubbish)..my only gripe is the gearchange. When I change from 1st to 2nd it sometime does as what I can only describe as a 'clonk'or a graunch as if the lever is not quite going into the slot. Its not consistent and it doesnt do it everytime and less so when the engine or gearbox oil has warmed up. its been a gearbox specialist whom says its not the gearbox, more likely the ball joint and cables at the base of the gearstick . he could replace it but doesnt think it will do much to the quality of the gearchange and thinks its more a trait of the car...does anyone else have this experience and any answers? Should I insist on that part being replaced and will it help?

    Thanks
    Signatum

I would request that they get it sorted out, I dont have that model, but can say that the box on my 56 Vec is very smooth and has been since new, 33k on clock now. Never had any issues with the gearbox or the car itself for that matter.

My siggy's just the same... 1st to 2nd... Crunch! But 2nd to 1st is fine, as are all the other gears. I just have to remember to be gentle with her. My problem at the moment is a horrible rattle that some others seem to have. In low revs, 2nd or 3rd etc, theres an annoying rattle from the engine bay... Wit until that kicks in! LOL

You shouldn't have to put up with it being graunchy. The boxes are definitely notchy, more so when cold, but mine has never been crunchy or graunchy. As Dwabo said, if yours is it's the cable linkage that needs adjusting - that should sort it out.

Default Gear Linkages...lets Get It Sorted!!

thanks to all who have replied...it seems it is a general fault of the car with the gear linkage cables which seems to make much sense. But as some ahve said because its a trait it should be sorted out by adjusting the cable linkage...might get onto vauxhall and see if there was any recall on this

    thanks to all
