Default VXR Re-Map for the 1.9 CDTi 16v

I went in the VXR Performance Centre's Astra SRi demo on Sunday.

A 1.9 150 CDTi Astra H 5dr with 200bhp and 330lb/ft. This was simply stunning, the in gear performance was just awesome, with them stating that it was near on as quick as an Astra VXR on the 50-70 time.

I questioned the durability of the re-map at 200bhp and was told that many hours of durability testing at Bruntingthorpe in the Astra have settled any concerns. They can't of course comment on other manufacturers re-maps but just on there own.

My New Vectra will be on it's way to the VXRPC as soon as they open in April.

Totally different engines mate, I have seen pictures of the 5 door VXR under testing, looks like the mutts, and 200bhp, you`ll have to beat Alex there

The Thurlby 888 Astra is the same 1.9 CDTi 16v unit as the 150PS Vectra CDTi. But the original Astra 888 Coupe is the Z20LET Petrol Turbo.

The VXR Performance Centre demo is the 5dr CDTi, but Vauxhall are not going to launch a 5dr Astra VXR in any shape or form.

I got this from the horses mouth on Sunday. Shame as there is a market for it.

I won't be rushing anywhere at the moment, the car is running like a bag of sh17.

I've had the tuning box off all week now as I noticed a slight hesitation, and on the way home the 'Limp Mode' light was flashing all over the place and the power delivery was very lumpy. I'm fearing something is very wrong. It's in with Vx tomorrow, so I'll let you all know.

I'm just hoping it's not the tuning boxes that are at fault. I've had loads of different boxes with different profiles on recently, so now I'm well scared.

I knew I should of got a GSi and had it converted to GAS.

Alex - have you tried disconnecting the car battery for a while, and then seeing what its like? It may be the ECU doesnt know what the hell is going on and a reset is required?

    just a thought

    sorry for thread hijack

Disconnecting the battery does not remove fault codes from the ECU on Vectra C.

    Alex,

The tuning box more than likely WILL be the cause of your probems. My was repaired last week, your fault I suspect is the swirl flaps within the inlet manifold getting totally coaked up, there is a motor in the inlet manifold that opens and close's the flaps, this 'could' burn out by not being able to operate and get restricted. The motors are not available on there own as they are part of the manifold.

When the flaps get coaked up the motor will not operate properly and cause the car to go into limp mode, it will feel very lumpy and feel like there is no turbo boost.

Limp mode of the CDTi engines in effect 'closes' off the turbo. Vauxhall are aware that these tuning box's are being fitted and that these problems are happening quite often now.

To do the job properly the dealer will have to remove the inlet manifold, which means removing the cam belt as well. Not a cheap job.

You should get it done under warranty, just plead innocent about your box.

Mine was not too bad and was cleaned out and everything is OK now. But I am now very nervous about fitting a tuning box again.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Well, if you're right Matt I won't be fitting the tuning box again and will be going down the re-map route.

I'll let you all know tomorrow.
