    Default Ooopps!!!

    My car is in my dealer, undrivable waiting for a part on back order.

    The gearbox has gone!!!! Typical, the only car I have had in history which is driven like an OAP and the gearbox goes bang!!!

    3rd was getting very notchy over the last 4000 miles or so, then today it crunched into 3rd and then I could not get it out of third at all!!!

    So in it goes, got a nice facelift Vectra SRi as a Courtesey car from tomorrow for as long as it takes to get a new box for me.

    To be honest I am not that disapointed, the warranty runs out in 10,000 miles, so if I keep it I'll have a nice new gearbox!!!

    VX must have a huge pile of ***ked gearboxes by now...it seems to be the most common major component failure. Yet all they do is bang another one on...ive often wondered if they do ever do a full diagnostic stripdown on every one that is returned to the factory. Nice of them to give u a facelift veccy tho...bit of a result.

    mine is crunching again..been in once and said linkage was out...somhow I think it could be my gearbox on its way out too.

    The reason they just put in new box's on the CDTi's and turbo's is because the F40 is a Saab box, not Vauxhall, so they don't strip them to find out the problem just bang in a new one.

    I complained about my gear's being a bit notchy 2nd to 3rd.

    As my car is just over 12 months old my dealer wanted £70 inspection fee to look at the gear box- they said that they may need to adjust the linkage and that I would be charged.

    I asked them has there been a history of gearbox issues on the C and are there any Field Remedies .... No was the answer

    I rang Vx HQ, they said that dealer could charge an inspection fee and they were unaware of any gear box issues.

    Interestingly I asked my dealer that if the gearbox fails, it would be replaced under warranty, yes they said ... therefore doesn't altering the linkage prevent failure? therefore prevents huge warranty claim?

    In the end I said that I would wait for it to fail rather than paying £70 + adjustment cost for linkage

    I actually think the gear box is ok, I was just changing at high revs

    The V6 CDTi engine is 100% ISUSU with Vauxhall mapping and management. the Saab uses different Management than the Vectra/Signum.

    If you have a supected fault, and the car is under warranty, I would not even entertain my dealer charging me to check, nor would they try to charge me.

    Cheers Buddy, I am not too bothered, it has done very well reliability wise, as said, I have the advatage of a new box should I keep the car.

    The facelift is being registered tomorrow.

    My gearbox occasionally crunches - when changing from 3rd to 5th at 85!!! (Private road of course!) Dont think they are designed to do that really though!

    Mine does it going into reverse EVERY time! Difficult to get into 1st from 2nd also
