Default Anyone use their V6 petrol as a motorway car?

Sorry if this is another one of "Those" threads...

I'm looking at the cracking deals you can get on the Vectra and Signum 2.8 V6's out there at the moment...

£3-4k for an Elite with all the trimmings, power, low miles etc...

So I'm curious what people get out of it if they are using it as a commuting car? I currently do around 20k miles a year with a minimum 90% of my driving life on the M1 cruising along at 70.

My Saab TTID is a great car, but I just dont enjoy driving it and the wifes Vectra 120 is even more of a bore. I really miss my 2.0 T Signum and am on Ebay/Autotrader all the time looking at whats out there.

I used to get around 300-400 miles from a tank in my old car but that was more 50/50 driving, never pure M1, so I cant compare the Derv with the Petrol. I've never had less than 650 miles from the 58 litre tank in my 9-3.

I've also done a insurance quote online and believe it or not a 2007 Signum 230 V6 is less to insure than my 9-3 180 TTID.

I've sort of convinced the wife its a good idea, I'm just struggling to seal the deal in my own head.

    Opinions greatly received...

I'm getting 34-35 mpg in my 3.2 Gsi on 160 mile trips to and from Bristol (from Warrington). BUT, I'm also using LPG so I guess that's around 68-70mpg equivalent cost

    Average MPG is around 26-27.

Going by what I've read you will get similar miles per tank to the turbo, so prob about 400'miles if you are cruising mostly on M1, but this is a lot less than the Saab. Remap the ttid and have best of both worlds as they are good cars!!

3.0 v6 cdti is fabulous on the motorway and mine will return a steady 40 - 45mpg with varied speeds.
Around town I'm averaging 25mph which isn't so great but oh well.

My vxr I feel is great all rounder the 2.8 v6 engine is a peach it's happy driving like miss daisy doing 60mph and revs sitting at 1800 and when you want to play wow is all I can say. we are currently getting around the doors mainly 6 mile trips start stop 28 mpg and on a good run I have managed around 35 mpg but that is driving sensibly! Lucky to get 20 mpg driving spirtly

Anyone who gets 650 miles from a tank of fuel drives a very boooorrriiinnnggggg car, keep the Saab as its a must have for boring mpg work related trips, get a weekend toy to play around with, my 205gti is fantastic, get nothing to a tank and don't give a **** either, my vectra is fine for work etc but let's face it, it wouldn't be your first stop for fun

Thanks for the replies, so I guess I'd be looking at 300 miles from a tank on the motorway... thats less than half what I get now. I really need to find test drive one and see how it feels...
