Hi all, just bought a new (to me) 2007 Vectra Sri CDTI 150, in digital green. Had it around 3 weeks now, been very pleased with it, to me feels much more like a premium car than I was expecting.
Car had 72000 miles when I picked it up, complete service history, very good condition, inside and out, almost looks like no one has ever been inside it. Well looked after, reciepts for oil changes between the main servicings, 4 brand new Goodyears, and new drilled/grooved discs and pads all round. All for a very reasonable price I thought. Car has built in Sat Nav and Xenons which I wasn't aware of from the for sale ad... bonus!
Now of course.. the problems. Car was fine for 2 weeks, I did notice the passenger footwell was damp early on, but dismissed it, as when I collected the car, there was a lot of snow on the ground and presumed some had been trodden into the car. 2 weeks later and after a night of heavy rain, I could have kept some fish in the footwell, so much water had got in over night. First research points towards the rubber boot that sits in the bottom of the drain channel forward of the front bulkhead, being clogged with leaves etc, diverting water into the car via pollen filter and blower motor, and this looks to be the culprit... a 30 second fix, however dryng out carpets isn't! Glovebox out, plastic trims out, passenger seat out, front carpet out, sound deadening out, and 2/3 days worth of drying, nightmare. Should be going back together this morning, I am going to pour several buckets of water down the windscreen before I put the carpets back in, to prove the problem is fixed. For the time it takes to clear the rubbber boot, or even better just chuck it, its worth doing just to avoid the headache with carpets.
Secondly, sat at traffic lights the other day, stationary, and TWANG. Rear spring has broken. Going to replace the pair this week. I guess this can happen to any car at anytime, but could have done without.
Third, last night, remote key stopped working. It worked in the morning, come to lock the car later on, nothing. Spare key works fine, and I've tried a new battery, still nothing, I don't remember dropping it or anything either. I've not had the ignition on in the car for 2 days, due to having seat out and not wanting to illuminate the airbag light on the dash, maybe when I can start the car with key in ignition again, it will sync the key again? At least thats what I'm hoping.
Not a great start to ownership, but I'm not stressing yet, hopefully these minor things will blow over and it will give me an easy run for a while.
Long first post, but any input is appreciated.
Cheers!
