    Default z30dt Stalling at idle

    Hi Guys

ive got a problem were my 3.0 cdti stalls when at idle, only once it has warmed up. The maf as been replaced and it hasnt sloved the problem.

When it does it the spanner light comes on and sometimes when i restart it the tracton control light remains on.

any ideas as no codes come up and im out of insperation!

    Cheers

This sounds like a fuelling sensor problem
The only way to diagnose this is to have the fuel pressures read and make sure they are within tolerance

The Traction Control warning light is probably a red herring, unless this always comes on when restarting after the EML warning light has come on (and then gone out)

Equally, what you need to do is have the codes read whilst that warning light is still on

Thanks for the reply. Sadly it doesn't bring any codes up when it does it. I'm going to reply and fuel pressure sensor and coolant sensor and hope for the best. The garage I use for any electrical problems are very good but even this has left them scratching their heads!

I assume this is an independent
Most independent garages struggle with the Y30DT / Z30DT

However, if this was a dealership go back and advise the original problem has not been resolved

Personally, it sounds like the EMS has not been updated to the latest version to provide a fault code when the Fuel Pump returns an error
As above, the only way to do this is with the fault appearing at the time whilst plugged in, which most dealerships won't do until at least the third visit (ie there is an erratic issue, they've witnessed it, and still don't understand it)

Is it doing it at set engine temp?

can you rev and for few seconds then leave to drop naturally to idle will it stall again?

whats the current milage? What type of service was last carried out& when?

It's sounds similar to a problem I have. Mine stalls when it's idle and at 85 degrees and like you sometimes with the traction control and or spanner light. I changed the fuel pump as advised but with no improvement. Does yor hestitate whilst driving when u accelerate hard in 4th 5th or 6th ffrom about 50 mph? The error code mine read was P00093 fuel rail pressure sensor. I have been told its the scv's and I'm having mine replaced shortly so I'll let you know if it solves it :-)

A blocked SCV should not cause any issues at idle, that's also impossible as that is not how SCV operate
    Therefore it something else

It can be injector related. Mine did have the same issues but a treatment with injector cleaner, every time I filled it up, did the trick.
It was typically, when I was stock at the traffic or the traffic light, in the sommertime, for a longer period and the temperature rised to about 90 degress - then suddenly it started with a rougness and a lot of vibration and then stalled, as I remember with a P0093 code, but I'am not quite sure.

Has your car an automatic gearbox, by any chance? Mine is doing the same but only if the gear selector is in the "automatic rail", that is, in P, D or N (I haven't tried R, yet). If I put the selector into the "manual rail" when at idle, it won't stall.

Sounds very much like the dreaded SCV,s, mines auto/tiptronic Vec c mine would constantly stall and hesitate whilst parking in car park. Alot of the early Vec c and Signum if they have not been running on the later software in the ECU, would not reconize or record the DTC/ERROR codes related to SCV,s and fuel pressure regulators....
