    Default "Proper" overhaul of engine...

    Hi chaps,

Maybe I'm being a bit insane here, but I fancied getting my hands dirty so was thinking of planning a full overhaul of my engine.

It's done 104k and has always been fully serviced, no expense spared. Naturally, given the age and mileage, it doesn't run as smoothly or quietly as it used to. Nothing actually wrong with it, I just enjoy trying to achieve perfection!

What sort of work would I be looking at to get my pokey 1800cc back to it's best?

Any obvious parts which wear and don't get replaced under the general service schedule?

    Yup!

An engine that has done over 100k obviously isn't going to be quite as good as the day it left the factory. As long as it has been properly serviced, and you continue to do so, then I'd say that old saying of "if it ain't broke" applies.

Thanks for confirming! I was always sure it was the case!

Was basically thinking that of replacing bearings and piston rings as I'd assume they've taken a fair bit of wear over the years.

Going to get the cambelt and clutch done soon anyway, so it seemed like a good opportunity to do a few little extras!

Do a compression test, that will tell you if there's an issue within the combustion chambers.
