Default 2012/2013 CD70 Sat Nav Disk. No TMC function?

I know that the map CDs from approx 2010 lost the postcode search, but have they also lost the TMC function too?

Just recently updated my 2009 disc and the TMC no longer works. Although the info wasn't always reliable, it was handy to know of roadworks or other hazzards ahead during my planned journey and gave me the option of another route to take (i.e using the dynamic guidance)

There was only mention by the seller (ebay) that the postcode search no longer exists. Nothing about the TMC being omitted too.

Dave, I have read that from the 2010 disk onwards, the TMC system changed. AFAIK, you will keep the TMC function if you continue to use your 2009/10 disk mate.

09/10 disc was the last to have TMC and basic post code search. The mapping was changed after this date.

Thanks chaps. Looks like I'll be reverting back to my 2009 disc then.

So much for progress. What a backward step in getting rid of the TMC announcements. I thought it was bad enough when the proper TMC system which used Classic FM for notifications was replaced with Traffic Master. To lose the function altogether is ridiculous.

Agreed, I might see if I can get hold of a 2009 disc; I needed an update from the 2006 one I had but got the 2012 one thinking it would be all singing and all dancing, obviously not

No, not quite. TMC works fine on mine with 10/11 disc. What I have noticed on all discs I have had however is that TMC is not always working in all areas all the time.

To test whether TMC is working properly press RETURN from screen you would normally receive your messages and select 'Details' (if lit) which will show location of all messages nationwide, and you will often find messages (by using the 4-way arrow keys) not in your selected range, but further away.

You could check the Settings (press INFO then TMC) then select TMC Stations which will have the 'AUTOMATIC' box with a cross in it, and other stations capable of receiving/transmitting messages. Mine currently has 'Tm TMC' as well as 'AUTOMATIC'.

I have often found no messages in my local area but then start to get them if I move into another area, such as Manchester or Cheshire.

Also make sure the TMC light on the main (Audio) screen is lit, otherwise it is not receiving messages, and that the 'Crossed-through GPS light' is not lit, if so you have no GPS signal.

Clearly TMC is not 100% in all areas all the time, but when it is working properly, for a freebie, it's useful.

    Hope this all makes sense.

With the 2012/2013 disc in, no TMC symbol was displayed, or messages. In the same location, I swapped back to my old 2009 disc and the TMC symbol and messages were instantly there.

Dave, have you purchased one of the "copy" discs off ebay ? They claim to be 2012/13 and they also claim that they are not infringing copyright, maybe it's because they are not the genuine article that you are having TMC problems ?

You could explore the 2009 and 2012 discs on the computer. They should contain the same filenames by name, and all except the largest of them should be the same size. That largest file should be bigger on the 2013 disk, I assume because each release of the disk contains more mapping information than the earlier one.

In my experience the TMC symbol doesn't always come up as the SatNav initialises, but should do so soon after.

I am convinced, as I said, that from what I have experienced with mine, TMC is not always working.

1st thing I did. Same file names.

    2008/2009 CD:
The Abstract, Bibliogr, and Copyright files are all 1KB.
The Carinet file is 733 KB.
The CarinDB file is 327,390 KB.

    2012/2013 CD:
The Abstract, Bibliogr, and Copyright files are all 1KB.
The Carinet file is 740 KB.
The CarinDB file is 404,260 KB.
