Absolutly, when Saab was owned by GM alot of engines were shared between the two companys. I have a 2.0T and when you take the spark plug cover off it actually has Saab engraved on it.
Not 100% sure but i think one of the 1.9's is a fiat engine, and the 3.0 an izuzu lump.
It common practice amongst car companys to cut down the costs
Thank you does that mean i need to be looking for saab engine mods rather than vauxhall?
what engine do have the 2.2 petrol or diesel?
not entirely... The 2.2 petrol is a GM engine rather than a saab engine, 2.0 turbo was the better engine that Saab made out of the 2.2. Saab have a long history of making great 2.0t engines so it was no big surprise to GM that Saab made a great job of it. Basically GM liked what Saab did with it so started to use in their other marques.... The mods and bits you will need for the 2.2 will be vauxhall/opel however some parts will be common to the saab and share the same part numbers like crappy 1.9 diesel fiat engine that Saab are also cursed with.. I think Saab don't use a 2.2 in their cars... i believe the reworked it up to a better 2.3
i have the petrol engine
thank you for your help. i guess now to save ££££££s to try and mod it lol
Your engine will be a Z22SE mate. There's no point modding it as you wont see any returns unless you spend 1000's. As Nige said, many parts are the same as the Saab derived 2.0T but the 2.2 was never put in a Saab.
Don't bother modding the 2.2 I had it in astra coupe form. Exhaust. Filter n map you might see 10-15 bhp.
Save your cash n get a 2.0 T or 2.8 T.
