Question door mirrors - removing the back covers?

I have my old door mirrors lying around and have decided to take the back covers off and mod them to put them on my current door mirrors.. There is no glass in these spare mirrors so i can see the lugs that you must squeeze together to the enable the back cover to be popped off. However its only possible to sqeeze on corner/set of lugs at a time so I cannot get the backs off... what is trick with these, somebody must have done this remember how?

ok managed to do it.. squeezed the lower outer lugs together then push down against the inside of the back cover with a screwdriver or something and it will just pop off, you will need to ease it off around the hinge. hope that helps somebody in the future,,,

lol cheers mate.. the second one came of easily anyway as it was damaged, should be hard as nails though once i have resined up this carbon fibre cloth. Will make nice almost unbreakable replacements when they are done. Just a few days of laying on layers of resin and the final prep.. Don't know how I am going to have time really as i am also making a pillar pod out of fibreglass and that is taking some work to get the shape right but if you can't buy them you have to make them..

    Can't stop modding stuff....

yes bud.. just squeeze the lower outer clips together with some pointed pliers, with the other hand push through with a screwdriver. you do need to remove the mirror first though, that just clips on but if its heated it will also be attached by two wires..

Dont forget though nige, if your building up layers about the bit that hook under the thin neck bit which is pretty tight as it is!

yup.. will be going up the lip and not around it as it will not fit otherwise, it is going to take some work to get it right but the end result will look mint and much better than these stick on jobs..

Dre.. you will probably need to man handle the mirror a bit.. push in the side nearer the car so you can get your finger nails around the outer edge to give it a tug (ooooerrr). at least that what i think you need to do, my glass was already gone, these are my old ones after all.
