Default Do rear shocks ever rattle?

I still have my rattle/knocking at rear of car, around wheels. It rattles when on rough roads or small bumps in the road, its fine if the surface is smooth.
Ive tried pulling the wheel in all directions while car is on ground, no movement. I jacked her up, took off wheels and visually checked the bushes, dont see any major signs of wear. I was wondering if it could be the shocks, would they ever make these sort of sounds while driving on rough roads.

Possibly brake pads... try driving and when it rattles pull the hand brake a little. see if it goes...

Is there any way of telling if it is the ARB bushes, I looked at them closely and they dont seem cracked or perished at all.
I suppose i could always replace them, seeing as there cheap and easy to do.
    Cheers

It's worth just replacing them mate, even if they show no signs of wear they can still rattle. As you say they aren't expensive either

Next time you hear the rattle, gently, and as long are you are not going fast, apply the handbrake, if it is the pads the rattle will go away.

You could just try pressing gently on the brake pedal then, but by using the handbrake your isolating it down to defiantly the rear brakes. I had a nightmare with mine. I eventually made up small shims to stop my pads rattling.

Yes, that is what mine was exhibiting for several months before the shock absorber finally gave up the ghost
Dealership and local mechanic both said no fault found
The issue didn't become obvious until it started to leak

Tried the handbrake trick today and still have the rattle.Goin to replace arb bushes at weekend. Did I read somewhere there is a difference in the size of these 18mm and 19mm?
Any ideas which ones would be on 56 plate cdti exclusive 150, or will they be able to tell by reg at auto spares?

If this doesnt cure it I will suspect shocks maybe?
