Default 2.2 SRI DTI EML Help please & "Check Oil Level".

    Folks,

    I need some help please.

I have a Vec-B 2001/51 2.2 DTI SRI and last week my EML/Limp Mode came on whilst I was driving on motorway.....found it to be one of the leak off pipes that had rubbed against the power steering bottle to be completely battered, so replaced and all was well. When I fitted the new pipe I did re-route it so that it doesnt go anywhere near the power steering bottle.

Then a few days ago I drove down to Basingstoke from Birmingham and car was fine all the way until about 110 miles in, when the EML came on whilst driving at motorway speed and car jumped into Limp Mode and would go over 60-70 mph. During the journey the "Check Oil Level" came on on the MID but checked the oil level and all was well. Anyway, pulled over about 7 miles after the EML first came on and turned the car off for about 5 mins and then restarted......ALL WAS WELL AGAIN so continued on my journey.

Driving back today and all was good again, pulled like a train until about a 100 miles into the trip where the same thing happened again, EML came up. This time on the way back the "Check Oil Level" didnt show up at all until the about 5 miles after the EML. Anyway I got home and turned the car off and went to get the laptop for the OP-Com and by the time I plugged it in the EML had gone off and no codes were found!!!

So, first of all, are the "Check Oil Level" warning and the EML/Limp Mode completely coincidental or are they linked?

Secondly, could this problem be the leak off pipe that I have replaced is also slightly porous somewhere-although its brand new?

Lastly......am I barking up the wrong tree and is there a problem somewhere?

The only reasonable explanation that I could come up with is that the leak off pipe I have replaced is slightly damaged and that with the heat of the engine its expanding and causing the EML to come on. Once it cools down slightly, it goes back to original size and all is well?

    Please help folks, thanks!

I had the oil warning light on my old Vec countless times and never went into limp mode because of it.
Have you checked how the MAF sensor behaves on Op-Com? Try to catch it with the EML on, as these MAF's are sometimes difficult to diagnose

I will check the MAF.....just seems odd how it dies when hot, rather than warm.....literally after 100 miles. I will open up the air flow and clean out the MAF etc.

think I had this a while ago, believe the fault code i got contained 'critical systems malfunction' as well, cant remember the code now though.. Turned out to be a vacuum pipe slightly loose to one of the vacuum valves. Sounds like it could be loosing vacuum pressure to the boost valve

Right, just been outside messing and when I changed the leak off pipe a week or so ago, In had to take of the big boost pipe that goes to the inlet manifold and as I was working in the dark, I must have either left it slightly off or the jubilee clamp was knackered, either way it seems that it was leaking slightly as there was black gunk around the pipe on the casing.....so I have fitted a new jubilee clamp and have reseated the pipe.......

LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS. Going for a blast now so will update this evening.

Folks, this is another update, I have been for another run from Central London to Birmingham and the same thing happened again, cruising with the rev's at 3000rpm and the EML flick on, loss of power but still drivable.

So I pulled over and turned the engine off for about 45 seconds, restarted and the EML was gone and the power was restored.

    Now im scratching my head,

I fitted a new crack sensor this time last year as that went and the only other thing that has led to this is everything in this thread.

    PLEASE HELP!!!
