Car in with vauxhall today. They are still looking at it and suspect the fuel injection pump. Been quoted £1700 just for the part.
Does anyone know if these things can be opened and cleaned out or is replacement the only option?
Cheers

It's te ECU board that fails not the pump ,you get a refurbished one from dieselbob or buy a second hand one as long as you get security code from donor car

I had thi son my astra. The work was in the regiong of £2300 though i got them down to £1997.
There a pain apparently due to the two ECU's needing to be sorted which prevents most smaller garages being able to do them.
You can get second hand ones though, it's what my warranty company tried doing.
just had Vauxhall on the phone. They have confirmed its the fuel pump and quoted £2700 to fix.
They also said it's a pig of a job to replace (10 hours labour). Is that right?
It's the ECU that fails not the pump. I've never heard of a mechanical fault on a VP44 PSG16
Don't think it's a 10hr job

doea anyone have a 'how to' on replacing the fuel pump. Want to see if its something I can do myself.
It might be around 8 hrs. It's a pain in the bum. I Just had issues with mine - one of the bolts holding it went busted, it started rattling and busted the fuel line. loads of hrs due to need of getting to the Cam Chain Chamber ??? they had to strip a lot of the engine just tu sort out 2 bolts MAAAAAADNES
Easier getting new(ish) engine in than changing the pump
I'm not sure what engine you have but Take a look at this thread as daveg replaced his himself and might be able to give you some advice
