Default kalimex K seal, bad e bay experience..

i know this subject has been discussed previously, and some people will say it works, and more, probably, say it doesn't. well i'm part of the latter, but that isn't the point of this thread. a rover 216 i had recently suffered head gasket failure, and i thought i would give it a go. i tried it, it didn't work. the issue came when i contacted the seller - 'coolantrepairco'. i politely told him that it didn't work for me, and asked for a refund, much as one would in any high street shop. he flatly refused, stating some small print wording in the description about it working in 8 out of 10 cases, covered him for this. i disagreed, raised a case with e bay and won. so, people, try it, it probably won't work, but if it doesn't, claim your money back.

TBH id say you landed lucky in getting your money back. No chemical sealant is guaranteed to work, in fact the only 100% cure for a head gasket failure is to skim the head and replace the head gasket and thats a big difference between a wonder cure and the actual cure. Lets be honest here Rover K series Head gasket Failures is not an undocumented reality. Sorry I think the seller was unfortunate, paypal works in mysterious ways........ Would you ask for your money back from durex if one split and made your wife pregnant?

the leaflet that comes with the product promises everything, guarantees everything, the seller added the 8 out of 10 get out wording for e bay. i know what you're saying, but anyone who is prepared to sell something that probably won't work should be prepared to take it on the chin occasionally?
the condom analogy? fair enough, but what if, say, you bought a cooked chicken from tesco? and it was off? would you take it off or shrug and take it as one of those things? or had a tyre fitted that went flat? take it back and expect some action? only the same really?
the car? it was free, i used it for a few months until the gasket went, sold it for scrap, best thing for a rover!

You should have taken it up with the manufacturer not the seller imo,but as stated it repairs most leaks, also depending on how bad the problem is

    Guarantee
When K-Seal makes a repair in the cooling system then that repair is guaranteed to last for the life of the engine.

If you have used K-Seal to make a repair and that repair subequently fails please write to us giving details of the original leak, how long the repair lasted and details of the recurrence of the problem. We will also need proof of purchase.

We will then either refund the purchase price (excluding any additional delivery costs if purchased via mailorder) or send you a replacement bottle of K-Seal.

What we unfortunately cannot guarantee is that K-Seal will work in every application. However, with over 100,000 bottles sold in 2006 alone we know that K-Seal has a very good success rate based on the feedback we have received from people who have used the product.

The guarantee does not cover hoses or moving parts e.g. water pump. We recommend that you add K-Seal at every coolant change to deal with any new leaks as they occur.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

This does not affect your statutory rights.

as with any purchase, high street or otherwise, your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer. the seller could have offered what they do and claimed it back?
it's my own fault for expecting something like this to do anything, but if you bought a bottle of instant baldness reversal cream, or beer belly reduction tablets from boots, for example, and they didn't work - would you take them back & complain? i would, perhaps it's just me. then again, i'm slim with great hair. [i'm telling fibs there!].

as said by mark, if you purchase a item then it doesnt work, the retailer is responsible for replacement/ refunding you under uk/ eu law. the retailr then needs to follow up with the manufacturer. if the manufacturer is offering the guarantee as mentioned by kevcdti then i'd also now send them the ebay invoice thing, and leter as well, get a refund out of them too!

I think the seller was right to say no. K seal only works if there is minimal defects. Your car could have been on the other end of the scale.

If it did not work on your car its hardly his fault is it? I know of someone who put it in his car then realised he had not shaken it before hand what a donut (I've never made that mistake again! lol)
