Oil Change Required - a bit sooner

Hi,

I bought my Insignia around 01/06/2010 at 8-9 months old and 8,000 miles.

I was told it was given an oil and filter change and would be fine until either 1 year or 20,000 miles.

The past week or so (going from todays date) 17/11/2010 and 6,000 miles later, the computer tells me to change oil. Is this normal?

My question is 'did the dealer lie to me about changing the oil/filter etc?'. I dont want to go down there any kick up if I am in the wrong. The dealer did lie to me on several issues which I have posted before (see previous posts too long to go into detail).

If anyone could advise that would be great. Thanks.

Fully synthetic oil is allegedly designed to last 20.000 miles, however i will be changing mine every ten. The thing that can affect oil life is having a DPF, which as it runs a regen cycle to clean it, burns excess fuel, some of which finds its way to thinning the oil.
The oil monitor takes regens into account and can advise an early change is required, quite normal.

There is also the possibility that they didnt re-set the computer on the car.

Have you looked on the trip to see what percentage Oil life is left? In my opinion, no matter how hard it is driven, the oil should last more than 8000 miles.

Just booked my insignia in today for first service having done just over 11,000 miles, guessing the oil needs changing as when it went to dealer in august 2010 the oil was saying 26% life remaining (mileage then was 7766)...however numpty technician reset computer to show 100% when I left. I bought my insignia new in december 2009.
