    Default 1.9CDTi engine temperature

Was very cold this morning (-3.5). Noticed that the engine temp guage never reached the usual (between 80 and 90), looked like it was about 70 degrees. The heater was working etc. Ambient temp never seemed to have much effect on the Mondeo TDCi running temp. Is it normal for the CDTi to be so much cooler in cold weather?

Could be a thermostat sticking open although the VX diesels can take a while to heat up. Take it it was a relativly short journey

Was a 25 minute run, 12 miles down M-Way and then across the city in very early morning traffic, so no stop start. Only second day it has been really cold since I got her, and I didn't notice the last time tbh.

I will take it out for a good run this evening, probably will be higher ambient temperature however. My MPG have dropped over the last few days, but only by one notch on the average scale (down from 42.2 to 41.5).

My CDTI 1.9 has been like this since new. I have never seen a drop in MPG though. There have been loads of posts in this forum over the years with many having the same experience. I have never worried about it.

there are loads of threads about this chap. have a search. they run cold in winter and barely register on the guage - nothing to worry about. heater will draw most of the heat from the bay and keep it cooler still. mpg probably drop might be due to any warming up of car before setting off whilst scraping windows etc..

Sounds to me like the thermostat too, it would also explain the drop in mpg.

I actually had not been worried, just curious, but following what has been said about the thermostat, I will keep an eye on it and the mpg. Car is still under Vx warranty, so if it is broke it should be fixed without costing me.
