    Default Safeguard Message

    Evening chaps.

Just a quick one. Picked up my new motor on Friday, loving it!

When you turn the radio/cd player, a message comes up saying 'safeguard'. Everything works fine, and the message goes away when you press a couple of buttons to reveal the track name etc.

is this a fault or something I should be worried about?
    Any help much appreciated

    Regards
    TC

The stereo works fine though!, just a bit annoying to have every time you get in. Once you press the rocker buttons, it goes away and the track info comes on...

It means there is a problem with the alarm system, which possibly invalidates your insurance. Take it back and get them to fix it. It could be something simple like a loose ultra-sonic connection behind the interior light or something expensive like the battery in the siren box.

I had this problem on my old Gsi, it turned out to be the back up battery was on its last legs in the alarm siren mounted in the boot, I bought a second hand siren from ebay and it never done it after that

The alarm siren may be disconnected, enabling the horn, which is louder.

I had this problem, garage tried fixing it to no avail, so I started checking fuses, there's a safeguard fuse in the boot I think, took it out, put it back in, and the message never came back. Dunno if it's any use

I also had this problem and it turned out to be the rear heated screen had breaks in the wire - if your rear heated screen doesnt work it will probably be down to that
