People have had issues on here with water ingress getting in via the rear roof rack rail, you know the one where the roof bar locates into.
This forces water to collect in the boot area,in the wells at either side of the boot,
Check these areas out,it's a long shot but it might somehow be getting in to the rear passeger footwell...anyway good luck with it .

Hi I had same prob when I bought my Signum and after much complaining it was sorted with a new rear quarter glass,seals/clips and relining of plastic behind door card as this makes sure water comming in between glass and door goes into drainage run at bottom of door and not into car. Vx have said this is common problem with Vec/Signum. Hope this helps

Ps If you get it fixxed and dried(took weeks for mine)then get aircon cleaned as this has antibac which will kill any mould that may have started and should help with damp smell

Thanks all, I will give these ideas a try and get back to you (just got to work out how to remove the Roof strips).

I've taken the strips off both sides and the two black clips wobbled a bit if I moved them. Not sure if they were loose enough to leak or not but have resealed them... Fingers crossed!!!

Dried the car out on Saturday Morning using Morisson's Car Vac. Seemed relatively dry when I left. By the time I got home (about 7 minutes) the carpet was soaked through again. It wasn't raining and the floors were wet, so the water must have already been in the car. Looking under the passenger seat there is a control Unit attached and the capret dips down where it is. I think the water that had collected in this dip may have been absorbed by the carpet and that is why it is wet. So I'm hoping that some newspapers in the back and another trip to Morisson's might fix it.

The only other thing I can think of (that would be wet when outside is dry) is the drain for the condensation on the Air Con. Does anyone know where this is? And more importantly if it could leak into the rear foot well?

    Hope someone has an idea.

    Thanks

    Trev

Everything went fine until it poured with rain on Saturday. Front and Back passenger foot wells completely filled up (I had puddles moving around in both as I was driving).

I dropped the Glove box out hoping to find the source and low and behold... nothing?!?!?! Everything behind the glove box was bone dry. The door seals were all perfectly dry, the plastic trim was dry... I think I must be going mad!

I have found one more wire that seems to go into the passenger compartment from under the bonnet and have resealed that, and am hoping that that is it. I think I am now completely out of ideas!!! If anyone has any thoughts I would really appreciate them.

The drain is under the car about level with the front seats. You'll see a little bit of tubing sticking out under the car in the middle. Wouldn't have thought that would be the cause but worth checking that it's draining when the AC is on - just look under the car when it's running.
