New PC Project - Build Log

Following on from this thread at the beginning of last year:

...I've decided to start afresh and build a new computer.

I'm an avid reader of Custom PC, and have taken a lot of inspiration from the various Dream PC's they've reviewed over the years...

Scan Jellyfish
Kobalt Daedalus
Vadim Xiphias

...and lots of others over the years.

These ones cost around 10 grand each

but obviously mine won't cost anywhere near that much. It will be built slowly over the next 6 months or so, with the final hardware spec not being chosen until the end when the case, cooling and various other bits have been built. This is the main enjoyment for me - the modding and plumbing.

On that subject, I am hoping to experiment with TEC - Thermoelectric coolers. These use the Peltier effect to transfer heat using electricity, and so can be used to cool computer components through the medium of water. It'll be fun however it works out...

First component is the most important - the Case...

One Corsair Obsidian 700D, ripe for modding with lots of space and seperate compartments for housing 'stuff'...

I shall be updating this thread as I manage to complete parts of it, and hopefully a fully working PC will be shown at the end of it all...

No knowledge what so ever of building PC's but subscribing as this looks like a good read.

ah brings back memories of my days as a PC engineer, moved onto Storage Area Networks these days. Will watch the thread with interest. Might build my own PC soon for video editing.

That's not a computer, that is a wardrobe!

My 5 year old HP pavilion is about the same size and having looked around at what is available my next will probably be about the same size as a typical 15" widescreen laptop
