Default Problem with my CD30 stereo

    Hi All,

Think i may have an issue with my head unit, but not quite sure. Had the volume up pretty loud, not deafening or anything like. All was good for about 5 mins, speakers weren’t distorted or anything and all of a sudden the speakers started popping, cracking and went really loud and kept cutting out. I tried to turn the volume down and it was the same until the volume was at 0. If i tried to turn it up the slightest amount the sound would be a d deafening level and would be all distorted and keep cutting out. The only way to get it to stop was to shut the car off and turn it back on again and it was all back to normal. It sound like all the speakers had blown!

So i bought some aftermarket speakers, nothing special, as im not going down the ICE route. All speakers fitted fine and working. Driving last night, good song came on, so whacked the volume up. Again, it was loud but not so loud it was distorted and after 5 mins, the same problem. Again, only way to stop it was to shut the car off.

Im wondering if its something to do with the head unit?

    Cheers
    Rob

sounds like the Amp in the head unit could be dodgey, you listen to it loud the amp heats up, over heats, then cuts out...

I was thinking along those lines - could be new head unit then!

Mine CD30 does this too sometimes. About once a month.
Re-starting the car has helped (so far).

Had a few issues with the head unit in my missus' car. It's a CD30. Distorted sound, unable to turn up volume. CD player not working. TID not showing correct info. It would resolve for about an hour when turning off the car and on. In the end, I disconnected the battery for an hour, it's been good for 6 months now...
