Motorway ghouls......

About a month ago,going nth on m1 near lutterworth jnct 20 Fri afternoon,2.30ishpm there was a 4 car pile up,pretty bad bump,closed m way both ways,helicopter jobbo landed,firemen with cutting gear to get the poor sods out,i happened to be about four or five cars behind ,but a serious incident has happened here,stuck in a q for 2 hours not that bothered really as i,m gettin paid for it(lorry driver).

However what did my head in,people leaving there vehicles from way back in the q with cameras in hand mobile phones etc,distraction to emergency personel clearly?why do people do this and if you have tell me why.

I hate this kind of behaviour. That is disgusting to go and take pictures like that.
Similarly, they even slow down to a crawl on the opposite carriageway to "have a good look" at an accident.
Damn rubber-neckers, if I was a policeman I'd give them all points on their licence for lack of due care and attention

Had one of them rubber neckers in front of me yesterday.

Multiple collision on the other carriageway and the stupid woman in front of me in the outside lane, slowed down to about 30mph just so she could have a good look .

There was nothing in front of her or in the other two lanes.

As soon as she had 'crawled' past, she sped up again and pulled over into the nearside lane.

They anger me...

I am a traffic cop and put up with these idiots on a daily basis.
I have even had them walking into a scene to take pictures!

Some people even get lairy when you tell them to stop.

I always wonder how they would feel if it was them and their family involved and some idiot was taking pictures of them.

Then we get moaned at because the road is closed. I often think how thoughtless it is of us to close a road just because someone has lost their life or been seriously hurt.

It never fails to amze me at the complete lack of understanding and general intolorence by the general public. The public must think we close roads just to p*** them off.

I have had people shouting at me "You can't just close a road I have a meeting" usually interspersed with lots of expletives.
The fact that someone has tragically lost their life a few yards down the road doesn't matter to them. Winds me right up!

Trust me, we never close roads just for the fun of it!

On a slightly smaller scale, dealing with collisions in the city, people just drive at you or around you when you are trying to get casualties to ambulances, or to get recovery in to remove the trashed vehicles.

Then they end up getting punctures on broken glass from the crash.....
Maybe there is some justice after all....

I actually take some pics for the local paper occasionally - and have a proper ID badge for them!

My local chappies are always most obliging whenever there's an incident - if it's safe I'm often allowed (accompanied) access inside a taped off area to get pictures of whatever's going on.

I'd never just wander into a scene though - like you say it can be a matter of life or death and the guys who are closing the scene off aren't just doing it for fun.

Scene Preservation must be the most boring job anyone could have to do - they're not gonna choose to do it for fun!

We tend to shut a whole area down so people can't get near, the local papers must get sick of it cos they only get a pic of an officer or pcso stood next to a beat car and a cone.
