Default Do I trade in my car

I have an ex-police 2.8 V6 Turbo Vectra. It has VXR breaks, clutch and manual gear box.
It's remapped and pushing 310 BHP with a standard VXR Stage 1 remap.

The problem is I have a new job which requires a lot of driving and i'm now putting £100 of fuel in a week. Averaging 330 miles on a tank (no/little motorway driving).

I am considering swapping it for a 1.9 CDTI but can't afford to put any on top of what I get for mine. The thing is no one wants a big petrol engined car at the moment so £3,000 is about the very maximum I could probably get & i'm worried about spending just £3,000 on a CDTI because they all have massive mileage at that price.

    What should I do?

£100 in fuel a week is nothing, I go through that in a (normal week) day
Converting £100 per week, equates to about 15,000 miles per year

You really need to look at the pros and cons, both short term and long term

Personally, I would stick with the petrol
Yes, might appear slightly more expensive but the cost of the diesel in comparison is little of a saving

Equally, it depends on how you value your vehicle
Mine is now out of warranty so I value it at £0
When I trade it in, anything is a bonus, it has earned its money for me

You will probably find you wont get offered much or very little due to it having over 100k mileage, being ex police and being on the V5 as a special.

I would agree with the low valuation over 100K miles, but when trading in it is rare for the details of the previous registered keepers to affect the value
A former Police vehicle is usually easy to spot, so when trading in once the vehicle has been examined this is normally asked and when confirmed will drop the value accordingly, ironic as that is

Some weeks it is more then £100.
Sometimes £150 (as in 2 tanks).
The CDTI would be approx £50 per week.
Would the CDTI really risk being more in the long run? I know the 2.8 V6 is a reliable engine but £200+ a month saving?

LPG conversion? I'm running the 2.8T elite without any problems apart from the fact that the small spare wheel well means I only have a 45 litre lpg tank

Get a CDTi, i just bought one to replace my MG ZT-T 2.5 v6 perol and im noticing a huge differance in fuel economy.
Im getting pretty much double the mpg, if not more! And diesel is only slightly more expensive than petrol so it is still a BIG saving in the long term! Vehicle tax is cheaper too.
If you get the 150bhp version its not too slow either, loads of torque, great for overtaking!
I do like my fast petrol cars tho but owning one as your everyday runner is just too expensive these days!
If my wallet allowed it i would have my cdti for everyday/commuting and a petrol toy for the weekend!

As for trading in your car, you will probably get an insultng offer so stick it on ebay with a buy it now for an amount you would be happy with and add the "best offer" option so people can make offers. Thats how i sold my mg. The garage offered £800 trade in and i managed to get £1500 on ebay! Still alot of car for the money tho.
    Someone will buy it!

You will get around 600 miles from a CDTI tank which is now costing around £85 to fill up. Opposed to the £80 for a full tank of petrol and your getting about 330 miles.

You then have to work out if the extra money you spend on a 1.9 CDTi is going to work out cheaper in the long run. Plus add into the running cost's all the faults that a normal with the CDTi engine. Unless of course these have already been carried out when you purchase it.

    What are the common faults?
I am aware of the fly wheel problem but other then that I havent got a clue? I am aware though that my engine has very few common faults.
