    Default Stupid question time.... Servicing

Morning all. I'm wanting to start servicing my veccy by myself. I have already changed the spark plugs and coil pack and have ready an air, pollen and fuel filter to replace. What else needs doing for a proper service? The car had its pads, discs and brake fluid all changed last march. I know it will need the oil changing too.... Think I will struggle on doing the oil and fuel filter, will a Haynes manual show me how to do this?

    Cheers

Dependant on age/ milage coolant and gearbox oil?

After that case of stripping and cleaning brakes. And f
Then generally going around and checking bushes for play etc.

Oil & filter really isn't that hard to do on the drive (unless you're a but tubby like me). depending on engine and filter location, the fuel filter can be tricky but do-able with a little patience.

tbh the biggest part of a service isnt the changing of filters it is the safety inspection, if your not confident in inspecting a vehicle for serviceability enlist the help of a friend who has the knowledge/experience or get a garage to do you an inspection

You've got a petrol engine, so the fuel filter will be quite easy. Oil changes are also easy, but if you're a novice then put a polythene dust sheet under the car to protect your driveway from spills.

get a decent drain pan too , and torque bit set thats not made from chocolate , always warm the car up before dropping the oil , IF its an element filter ? you'll need a big enough socket to undo the lid which should only be 25nm but will be way tighter than that , good luck , once you get the hang of it its easy

Strongly agree. As this is carried out for an MOT I regard the this test as part of my annual service. Debate?

I have a 2008 1.8 vvt (z18xer) with 62k on the clock. Would you recommend coolant with this age/mileage? I have a friend who can help with a safety check. Thanks for the advice guys keep it coming.....

The Red/Orange OAT Antifreeze has a minimum service life of 5 years. As long as it tests lower than -28 its fine, this has more to do with anti corrosion property's than outright frost protection.

Just out of curiosity why are you changing the coil pack?

Is it high mileage or do you have a misfire or similar problem? Theres no service interval for changing the coil pack as far as I know.
