    Default Monaco May 2012

What has to be one of the mickey mouse races of the year

    Practice has been rather boring
This was a great opportunity for the smaller (back marker) teams to take advantage, but their performance has been dreadful, compared to the start of the year
However Red Bull look to be nowhere
Mercedes and Ferrari look to be going for qualifying position only

Practice 3 is underway and Red Bull are still nowhere, Vettel is clearly struggling
Paul Di Resta did a Massa from last year...

    Maldonado, what a muppet...
Yet again red flag called with little or no time remaining (3:42)
Something needs to be done about this, to reset the clock for lost time

dull race, monaco always is unless it rains more than a few spots. i wouldn't miss this race if they scrapped it; was good for the old fashioned cars years ago -- but doesn't suit modern f1 cars at all.

Completely agree!! If this race had been anywhere other than Monaco it would have been binned years ago, but money talks. The commentators were babbling on about how great it was to see 6 cars fighting of the lead on the last lap, WTF??? The only reason they were fighting for the lead on the last lap was because there is no where to over take. TBH I was hoping it would rain and hopefully there would have been accidents and tyre change failures.

Race turned into a procession as usual, except for Hamilton who's strategy managed to cost him 3rd place, pity really as he deserved better. Feel for the veteran hero MS though had he retained pole today would have been really memorable.

As for Maldonado, Jeez my wife could avoid the things he hits and that is saying something

TBH I think MS will get binned at the end of the season, for possibly Di Resta, unless his season really picks up. You know ive actually more respect for MS these days than in his hay day, he can still cut it, just had a lack of lucky this season.

The race itself was destroyed by the unusual tyre choices
In all the other races the tyres are two compounds apart, but Monaco they are only one apart
However even these soft tyres are just too hard for Monaco, resulting in just the one tyre change, due to the lower average speed

In recent previous years the race has only been interesting by changeable weather conditions
However in consistent heavy rain the majority of races get red flagged now

Looks like there will be major driver changes over the next 2 years
MS had to come back, as there just wasn't the calibre of new drivers coming through (the examples of when Massa was ill, etc)
It has already been well documented that the relationship between Ferrari and Massa is breaking down, and may not be renewed at the end of this year
There has been rumour of Di Resta moving to Ferrari (as negotiations have already taken place), but I think this is too early and against what Ferrari would normally do (as they prefer drivers with at least some podium results)

Finally, Mark Webber might retire at the same time as MS, that leaves two great seats to fill
However, would any driver want to take such a gamble on cars that appear to be going backwards now...
The gap between the top and bottom is much narrower now

There isn't much anyone can do about it though

DRS is pointless, not one car made advantage of it (except to pass either damaged, slowing or cars under blue flag)

The soft tyres can easily cope to more than half distance, so one tyre change (pit stop) is all that is normally required

We all know why Monaco is on the calendar, and that isn't likely to change
Roll on Canada, back to some real racing...
