    Default Anyone know...

    Hi,
I got a flat tyre the other day on my facelift Vectra C 1.9cdti 150 (2006). Not a massive problem I thought slipping on the dinky spare for such occasions. However, whilst continuing on my journey, forgetting how much closer to the ground she sat; I really clonked the bottom of the engine.

Does anyone know the best place to buy a new sump case please, and more importantly:
Does anyone here know if the subframe has to be removed (As well as the exhaust) in order to put the new casing in place?
    Many thanks, Chris

I thought the spare had the same size rolling radius?

If it was any smaller / bigger then it would have put the ABS light on.

I don't know Dave; it looks smaller, a lot smaller, and I didn't have a need for the ABS to be used so I would know if the light would have come on.

Do you know the answer to any of my questions? I got excited when I saw I had a reply, but that didn't really help

Looking at it in haynes manual its a tricky job you have to remove right hand side driveshaft and exhaust but its limited space and you dont have to move subframe

There's a big lump taken out of the casing, the chap who looks at it for me said it's unrepairable (Due to being porous aluminium, welding is out), and that supplied from the dealer it'll set me back about £250 - £300 plus vat.

I thought I'd found what I need for £70 - £100 on line but can't be sure I'm ordering the right part with so many variations.

The light only comes on if there's a fault with the ABS system. It doesn't come on when the ABS kicks in.

Unfortunately not. Just wanted to clarify with you about the ABS light.

Years and years ago,(very nearly "once upon a time"),I owned a Maxi and grounded that on some rock's in Wales,(long story),anyhow it was actually leaking oil as I'd punched a hole in it.I used a product then called "Molecular Metal",it was/is a type of paste that sets hard, just like the original casing material.I never had any issues after using it and it was still ok when I finally moved the car on.I don't know if it's still available under that name, but I'm sure there is something out there that can save you putting a new sump on. FELIXX.

I put a hole in mine a few months ago and repaired it with chemical metal, there is also stuff called metal repair, just make sure you jack it up at such an angle to take oil away from leak point and clean the area thoroughly. I did change my sump eventually but the repair was fine and never leaked!
