MOT ... be aware!
So yesterday i had my MOT...
just so you all know, If you run HID's in a non HID headlight it is now an instant fail... Same goes for upgrade LED bulbs if the headlight isn't an aftermarket one and you run LED bulbs it is an instant fail.. no if's or maybe's about it.. check section 4 of the 2021/2022 MOT rules on the DVLA website.
It also means that even if you modify the oem lights with aftermarket hid or led projectors it is still an immediate fail.
You'd think that the DVLA would be smart enough to understand that full led or HID upgrades mean that you can see better and that you are easier seen, but no they clearly don't. The lights need to carry the type approval on the housing or lens, if the MOT tester can't see that it is an instant fail.
You now know so don't get caught out like i did as it just means extra time without transportation since i only own one car.

Yep - which is why my HID / LED headlights are sitting in the garage and I'm driving round with candles. There's a consultation going on at the moment too speciafically regarding modifications of any sort to production standard. Could get messy...........

Amazes me that the standard lights were deemed fit for purpose when the model was launched.
If i still had a Vec i would have a set of standards for MOT then put Hids back in after.

And the moment you get pulled over into one of those DVLA tests you're going to be fined for driving around with illegal head lights... nope I just went and ordered xenon look halogen bulbs to battle the yellow nasty light i got right now... for the complete front... and the whole set is cheaper than just 1 of my led bulbs... And even better it is completely legal... i already drive around with blacked out rear light clusters that clearly diminish the light output which for now is an advisory to sort out asap... that'll be the next thing to be illegal come 2022/2023 MOT ruling according to the MOT tester...
So i'm now looking at getting a set of LED rear light cluster that are completely smoked... and have next to no red in them...

Trouble is there is next to no enforcement of the pillocks who make crazy modifications and who are driving these knee jerk reactions by ignorant politicians. Blue HIDs in non projector lights, 110db exhausts with 'turbo' pop, hanging around in public places doing burnouts and with music blaring. No, I'm not being old and grumpy, but when it makes my car less safe as I have to de-mod things that were compliant at the time I fitted them ( bought self levelling shocks and healight washers for the HIDs for instance ) it makes me seethe

yeah i wasn't best pleased with that either, but at least the xenon look h7 bulbs that actually give a white 5000k colour, will take away that ugly yellow light i hate so much...
the thing that annoys me about it is that i won't be able to see the lights at all, unless i put on the front foglights and use the high beams when I'm driving around on b-roads that don't have street lights... with the upgrade h7 led bulbs i barely needed to use any of the other lights....
next year I'll facelift the car and buy a new set of facelift headlights as they cost half the price of a set of pre-facelift headlights that should help a bit with the light output for a few years.
