    Default My cracked snowflake....pics

    Hi all,

Some may remember I had a slow puncture in my front nearside wheel and when I finally took it in to have it repaired they found two cracks

    Looks ok....

    Still looks ok....

    Look closer.....

    And here....

****** I thought.... So I did a bit of tinterneting and came accross these guys... http://www.fawheels.co.uk/

What a decent bunch... Peter is the main man and he completely cut out both fractures and filled/welded new alloy in. Then he machined the inner lip so there was a good seal for the tyre and left the weld proud on the outer edge for strength.

He also straightened out a slight buckle in the wheel and repainted the repaired areas. The whhel was fully masked up so no dodgy over spry etc.

Tyre refitted using rim guards and fully balanced needing only a 10g weight. £70

    End results....

    and the other one....

    Jon

I personally would'nt trust a repair like that!!! the wheels & tyres are the only thing which keep the car on the road, and to me that looks a bodge, a big blob of weld!!!

And you can tell all that just by looking.....

Why do I even bother taking the time to explain what the process was and taking photo's etc.

Whilst I was in the workshop BMW dropped round about 20 rims with cracks.... some of the 6 series wheels had 6 cracks in the rim and this company repairs them.

Do you honestly think they would be in business with a BMW contract if their repairs were a "bodge"????

But it's me thats driving the car so
