Did you have fuel left in the tank by any chance
I always thought 62 ?
Handbook says 61 ltrs for hatch and saloon.
60 ltrs for the estate.
ive only ever got 55 litres in .i,m guessing there must be some sort of reserve tank or fuel left after the gauge says empty.
My mind goes bk to Top Gear when they did the Blackpool illumination trip and the cars went alot further after showing empty
Lotta money to fill up these days.
I tend to go by £p rather than litres
Cheaper in al belle France
How would have thought it...
I've had the tank down to about the last 5 litres, which shows as 1/8th left the red warning light flashing, then filled up so that I could see the fuel in the filler pipe and it took just over 55 litres
I wouldn't consider going below 7 litres in the tank, so in effect the available fuel is nearer 55 litres
For me each 1/8th of a tank is between 30 and 50 miles
When filling I normally fill in multiples of 7 litres
30 miles per 7 litres is quite scary, about 19mpg
On my recent long trip (just before the engine suffered the blocked SCV) I got the range to show 550 miles, which is one of the highest I have ever had (normally about 400 after refilling)
i know its bad for the engine, but ive had the gauge at the VERY bottom of the red and still got 20 miles out of it (had to, nearest petrol station at the time!)
It's not bad for the engine at all
The risks are however increased that there may be sediment in an old fuel tank
However modern fuel tanks very rarely suffer this
There is a higher risk if you own a diesel of simply running out of fuel and needing to bleed the engine!
Hence, why owners of diesels are advised NEVER to run out of fuel
As far as I am aware there is no fuel pump in the fuel tank, but it may vary by engine
On the 3.0 V6 CDTI there are two fuel pumps on the engine, hence why there is no fuel pump in fuel tank
What kind of money were you paying per litre when you posted this?
