thanks for all the replies, i've phoned the garage up again armed with this info and he said he'll look into it.
In the meantime, a friend of a friend who works at a vauxhall dealer told me the problem could be that the clutch kits they get as a pack from vauxhall are sub-standard. Apparently vauxhall themselves advise to get the parts individually (no idea why that is).
Anyway, i told this to the guy at my garage, he phoned vauxhall, they confirmed this and now it's going back in next week to have the 2 week old clutch removed and replaced with the new individual parts.
What a ****** carry on this has been, hopefully this will now sort it!
I'll post back in a couple of weeks when its been done to update the thread, but in the meantime if anyone else is having this problem, a couple of people have told me it could be a worn or off-centre clutch release bearing.

Good news at last. Result!
To be honest, the only thing that would make it judder would be a dodgy or worn out clutch plate so fingers crossed this cures it.

I'd get them to change the slave cylinder whilst they are at it. It will cost you around £100.
Generally reverse is geared LOWER than first, so you have more power that way. Also, if it were higher if you red lined it backwards you'd be going faster than red line in first!!!
I think the Haynes Manual shows the gearing ratio's...
