Can anyone who has changed the aux belt on their DTi tell me how easy does the tensioner move to release the belt. My one feels like it seized cheers John

there is a bit of tension sometime they can be quite tight and need a very long spanner or lock to spanners together ring end on open end
Cheers guys, the only reason i ask is i have a squeak coming from the belt on start-up. I bought a new belt but when i went to change it i pulled the tensioner with a 2 foot breaker bar and socket but all the tensioner did was squeak and didn't move enough to release the belt. Just thought the tensioner was siezed. Is it an oil filled damper??
cant mind to be honest mate(i would assume so tho)...i done one on a zafira a few months back started as a squeak...few days later came in no power steering battery light the lot on...the upper bolt(that bolts into the aircon bracket) had sheared..the tentioner seized and snapped the bolt...mission to get that out to say the least
I know this is an old post, but was wondering if you replaced the tensioner in the end and how difficult it was?
Also, when did you get the squeal? I get it just as the engine starts (not while it's turning over on the starter or when it's running, but just as it starts) and was wondering if it might be the tensioner.
Thanks.
It sounds like you have the same problem as I did. The tensioner has an oil filled piston that can seize.
One of the bolts is hard against the chassis but apart from that it's very easy to change.
Anybody know the best place to get a tensioner and what's a good price?
Think I have the same problem, does anything else need doing with it? Any bolts or such like? Barring the belt obviously lol
Iirc the tensioner comes with the two bolts, I was about 50 quid for the tensioner
Thanks. I plan to have a look this weekend. First I need someone to help so the engine can be started while I listen around the engine to see where the squeal is coming from.
It it does look to be the tensioner, then I'll try to release the tension - if it's stuck then it's off the the garage. If not, I may have a bash at changing it. After all, how hard can it be?
Interesting to note that both bolts come with the tensioner. I'll double-check that with the dealer as they didn't mention that. Am I right that they different - ones M8 and one's M10, and they're different lengths as well?
