No mate, it goes straight on.

The only things you need to do is drill a couple of 8mm holes in either end of the VXR insert (where it clips to the bottom of the bumper) and then saw a couple of plastic hangers from the bumper (dead easy, not as scary as it sounds) and then it goes on the same as the standard insert.
