    Question Engine cutting out

    Hi All,

My Mum's 1997 2.0CDX Auto has been cutting out while driving of late & will not restart, but leave the car circa 15-30mins & it will usually start 1st time, drive for a few mins, sometimes more then cut out again. Took me an hour & 3 failures to travel 2 miles last night due to the cut out.

I appreciate it's a vague explanation at best, which could bring up many options, but as the car has practically zero value & STILL pending replacement, they begrudge spending out on a garage to diagnose what is "probably" a simple fault (I hope!!!!!)

    Regards,

    Dan.

AN old Rover that I used to have was exactly the same, and I eventually worked this out to be a broken thermostat. Simple fix, and not that expensive. So just have a rummage round to see if that has gone west.

    LOL,

Wasnt a Bubble shape 216 auto was it? Made me remember we had one that wouldnt start from cold, a right pig to identify the cause, We never did and sold the car in frustration!

But I'll get the thermostat changed incase, cheap and easy as you say, Thanks for that. Though it cuts out when engine is still cold too, dunno if thats more confusing - Cars eh!

It was a 1985 216 Vitesse. It did it from Hot, Cold, Luke Warm..... basically whenever it felt like it because the thermostat was goosed.

Dano - have a trawl through some of the other VX forums that cover the Vec B models, typically http://www.vvoc.com/. I seem to recall somewhere that the throttle body needs to be cleaned out - this includes ALL the small ports on the body so it needs to be removed from the motor. Worth a try as cleaning is free. HTH.
