private plate, keep or bin?

hi, got my vec 2 weeks ago. came with a prvate plate- cheapo irish style, three letters followed by 4 numbers.
the car is not imported.
dvla have said i can have a standard age plate from them for free if i hand the irish one back or pay a fee to keep it on retention.

car is a 2003 so it does hide the age. just the irish plate bit that puts me off a bit
opinions?
keep or bin?

Personally I would keep it because at the end of the day its a dateless plate and its better than a standard plate!

Its up to you though but what would you get from a standard plate that you don't get from the Irish one?
