EGR Stuck on!

I attempted cleaning the EGR valve at the weekend (2003 2.2Dti), but the thing weren't budging

Bolts and pipes came off fine as in the "how to" but I could not seperate the EGR from whatever its attached to. I even gave it a pasting with a mallet and a crow bar, but nothing.

Any ideas?

Anyone have any suggestions????
Would trying it with a warm engine make any difference?

You could not of hit it hard enough it only sits on a lip of 5mm so should be fairly easy to prise off

The casting of the EGR has dents in it where i've attempted it.
I daren' t hit it any harder, something would have cracked.

Put a peice of wood on it and hit the wood - dont hit the metal - it will crack!...

Yeah i tried this aswell.
I swear someones welded mine on!!
Once the bolts are undone, is the EGR free to spin? What I mean is i know it needs to pull out but can i twist it aswell?

Spin is an exaggeration, I think something gets in the way, but it does twist a bit.

old pan, 50% antifreeze mix, with water of course, let simmer for a couple of hours. works great on model aero engines that have seized.might even dissolve the carbon as well,give it a go.
