    Question Engine oil question???

Hello all, just brought some fully synthetic vauxhall engine oil 5x40 off ebay lol... and now think it might be for a diesel, as it did not say in the advert, its for a 1.8 petrol

If you have a VVT engine with the Ecoflex service, then VX recommends 5w-30 fully synth for long life.
Nowt wrong with that oil 5w or 10w-40 wont do any damage, just change it a bit sooner.

the original oil for the vectra c was 5w40 for petrol and 0w30 for diesels, not long after the vectra c was launched vauxhall changed the spec of the oil to 5w30,both being long life, all vauxhall oils are designed for petrol and diesel

Bish, how long do you intend to go between changes on the 5w-40?

IMO, I'd only go 10k ish or 12 months max.

Even though I first used oil like you 5W-40 in my GSi 3.2, I've now changed to 5w-30 but still intend to change it every 10k/12 months.

    EDIT - here's what I bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=270275283198

If this is the case, why do VX specify 2 different standards one for petrol, one for diesel???

there are 2 standards of oil for diesel and petrol engines, vauxhalls own oil covers both engine types and the cans have both standards on them,a lot of oil manufactures do have different oil for diesel and petrol and these cannot be mixed, normally diesel oil is of a higher detergent content

Yes, diesel oils generally have more detergent.

As far as I'm aware VX don't do diesel oil anymore, and the only two I've seen on the shelf is 5/30 and 10/40, both these are fully up to task for a diesel or petrol engine so you can use it with confidence in both, and I don't see that one you've bought being any different, if anything it's a better oil, if you owned a Monaro or VXR8 and took it for a service at VX they would fill it with the 5/30, and that has to say everything about the quality of the oil, hth.

The only thing that would worry me is that I've not seen it before and it could be a scam where you buy a VX package full of cheap oil.
