Following poppy day,it got me to have a look at my Dads old papers/documents I found these which related to his & my Grandads WW 1 & 2 involvment.
The first is my Grandads medical discharge papers from the Royal horse artillery at the age of 21, He always joked he had a metal head , he did in fact have a metal plate in his skull where the injury was,he was also given a war badge [I have the certificate but not the badge] to wear so he was not deemed a coward for being at home.
The next one I have tried to research what Dad was up to but cannot find anything about even my uncle who was his best mate did not know anything about this.
The third item gives Dad access to the Essen war trials,I did not even knoe he had gone to that.
