Default Way back when...1.9 (150) CDTI (Warning Horror)

    Hi Guys,

Thought I would update you on the latest 'happenings' with my Vectra!

    What a nightmare!!!

So back in April I started getting this intermittent shaking at 2500rpm/6th Gear/80mph - Serious shaking! And loss of power - no fault codes and months on, still no resolution.

Dealer had the car for 12 days and found nothing - but managed to bring it back with a bloomin' great scratch on the front bumper and a squeaking steering wheel! Oh... and I have a problem with indicators keep cancelling too!

They had it back and got one of these mobile guys to repair the scratch and I now have a bumper a different colour to the rest of the car and full of tiny air bubbles!

On Friday I noticed the 'door open' warning light was on - checked the doors and still it stayed on. So when I left work on Friday I called the Dealer to let them know and suddenly everything - except the blooming light - stopped working!!

    No dash functions/display at all!!

Spoke to them today - they have to replace the whole dash unit! But has this been caused by the juddering problem I am having??? Has it damaged circuitry?? They say not!

Well - in respect of the original fault - they have permission from Vauxhall to change the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently they have had TWO other 1.9 (150's) with the juddering as a 'continual' fault - One has had a complete engine and the other has had the head replaced.

So with all the talk of Turbo problems as well on the forum - are there any other 'faults' I should be getting them to check for - bearing in mind the car has done less than 13.5k - I have really lost confidence in the car but with the initial depreciation I cannot afford to replace it and as my last new Vauxhall was as problem ridden, I want to make sure they sort out everything whilst still in warranty.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

    Pxx

The dash and indicator problems may have been caused by the dealer damaging the CIM if they had the steering wheel apart whilst looking for the juddering - may also account for the squeek. I wouldn't settle for the dodgy paint job, get them to do it again.

There are plenty of faults documented with the 1.9 150 engine

But how can I find out what they are??

It would take me 'til the end of my Warranty to read all the threads!

    Can someone 'summarise' them?

    Hello

You do not say how old the car is, but it certainly sounds a lot worse than my currently rejected car (07).

Try e-mailing this guy at Vauxhall Head of Customer service

    Hi CS,

The car was first registered April 2007 - Can I still 'reject' it now as it is over a year old! And how do I go about doing so???

I keep telling them it's what I want to do... As I did with the Meriva - I never even got a response to my letter from VX last time.

    Any help appreciated!

    Hello Pxx

First of all there is no time limit on rejection of purchases. But, the earlier you reject the more likely you will succeed.

You need to reject the car firstly, to the supplying dealer or if it is on hire purchase, to the finance company.

If you paid by credit card even if it is only the deposit of only £1 on goods costing 100 - £30000, under the ' Consumer Credit Act 1974', the credit card company are ' jointly and severly liable' for the entire purchase price. You have to supply information regarding it's unsatisfactory quality, idealy getting a comprehensive AA report.

It can be a long drawn out process and any court action is not to be entered to lightly.

Most solicitors offer a free first session or fight the case on a 'no fee no win' basis or go to the citizens advice bureau they may help.

If you look on the 'which' or ' BBC Watchdog' websites there plenty of advise and information.

    I hope that helps

    Thanks CS,

AA Report wouldn't have shown up anything with the juddering as it was intermittent and the dealership couldn't even replicate it.

I figure I have to give them the opportunity to 'fix' the fault now. I am horrified that an engine with under 14k miles needs a new Head.

Unfortunately I also haven't Diarised the problems - so I guess I should start now??

    Hi Paula

Mine had the judder also, but the AA report found other issues that could cause the judder, such as lack of engine power etc. These are common faults and they know how to highlight them.

But as you say they are replacing the head, so see if that works. If it does not, along with the cars other problems escalate the process to rejection.

    Thanks CS!

Having spent 9 months last year and the beginning of this fighting a case on the Sale of Goods Act - It can be soooo expensive and really draining so I do hope it doesn't come to that. But you do lose complete faith in the vehicle don't you.
