The traffic is MENTAL - DO NOT DRIVE THERE (especially true in cities / towns / everywhere actually) - you will probably be killed in the first day lol.
Some general advice, for what it is worth
DON'T drink the water, only bottle stuff. ALWAYS have a bottle of water with you - take the hotel room bottles with you for the day at work.
The local beers has glycerine in it, so drink imported bottled beers (if you partake).
Take alcohol hand wash (eg Cuticura) AND USE IT every time you use a toilet (hotel ones are usually OK), and before eating.
Carry toilet paper with you AT ALL TIMES (I have some in my wallet all the time when I'm there)
Food can vary,
DON'T eat or drink from road side vendors, if it hasn't been cooked or peeled DON'T eat it. Make sure it is thoroughly cooked, especially chicken.
Take:-
Normal remedies with you for the squirts (imodium), mosquito repellent spray/gel/wipes – especially if you’re going out in the evening. Must contain 50% DEET to be effective.
Pre/Pro Biotic capsules or similar for when you need to give your digestive track some assistance
Muesli bars or similar for when you're not feeling well and can't face another curry
Indigestion tablets 9Settlers etc) if you are prone.
Dioralyte – or similar rehydrate powders, the best versions have cooked powdered rice in it
Umbrella is a must - it is Monsoon season just now.
Long sleeve shirts are better than short sleeves to prevent mozi bites
DON'T wear shorts (except in the gym) - only the very poor wear shorts out and about.
Some £10 and £20 notes for exchanging into Rupees (about r83 to the £)
I keep a bag of India trip stuff in my suitcase at home, so I know it is all there for me for next time.
Enjoy.
