Glad you made it home mate, we was gonna run a book on how far outside the campsite you'd make it before the AA or RAC were called
Glad to hear it m8.
Any idea what went wrong in the end?
Yeah...but that would be telling!
Nah, the high pressure and temperatures created by the methanol along with the lack of back pressure from the missing exhaust must have caused the seals to fail. The impeller and turbine looked fine when I removed it and I have already sent it off for servicing. Hopefully I'll have it back together at the week end but for now I have a car full of car bits and a big gap in front of the engine!
Had a little shock when I found out the prices, Vx would have wanted about £500 for removal and replacement of a turbo and the refurb/service for the turbo will be about £280
Any point in upgrading or 'hybrid' ing the turbo itself? You might get some real power then!
And frighten anyone else who hasn't already run for cover!
Funnily enough, I was musing over how long this setback would see you down for, a week, more than I thought! Had visions of you caniblising something at work and be back on the road by Wednesday!
